After a few requests, we've decided to list out some
sites where you can easily download Debian *.ISO image files. For
those that don't have a clue, an *.ISO file is a
huge file which is
used to produce a CD-ROM disc. What you'll need is a good amount of
time to download the *.ISO files, and, of course, a CD-ROM burner. For
more info, see the official
Debian CD-ROM FAQ.
If you're not up to speed on installing Debian GNU/Linux, you are
strongly
encouraged to read the Debian
new installation documentation
and also to read the more general
Debian documentation.
The first site we want to mention is
Debian's official CD-ROM site
.
This site
gives several options of downloading Debian CD-ROM *.ISO images, including the
new "Jigsaw Download" (
jigdo)
option.
It also contains
instructions for creating *.ISO files from your local Debian archive mirror and
for using rsync to save loads of bandwidth downloading files.
Now for the listing of sites. These will appear in no particular order,
but you should be able to find Debian CD-ROM *.ISO images on them. If
a site listed below no longer carries Debian *.ISO files, please
let us know.
Listed below are a couple of sources of
unofficial Debian *.ISO images.
These are unique packaging ideas but are in no way official releases of
Debian.
- If you don't want to download one or more 600+ MB *.ISO images of Debian and
you don't want to mess around with boot floppies, then the unofficial
Debian "netinst" CD is for you! This CD-ROM *.ISO is only about 32 MB and
gives you enough packages to boot your machine and to run "apt-get" to finish
the install using a link to the Internet.
- ftp://ftp.fsn.hu/pub/CDROM-Images/debian-unofficial/MIRRORS
- A listing of mirrors carrying the "Debian Un-Official" *.ISO images.
These unofficial *.ISOs include "snapshot" images of recent "testing"
and/or "unstable" versions of Debian GNU/Linux.
Know of any other good sites? If so, please
let us know.
I wanna pay someone for a Debian CD-ROM!
That's cool, there's lots of people that provide such a service. You
can buy Debian CD-ROMs at places like
CheapBytes.Com
or see the official list of
Debian CD vendors.
