Laptops, Handhelds and Mobile Devices

Hi,

I have installed Debian 6 on a HP laptop. The model is *HP Pavilion dv6700 (Core 2 Duo T8300 processor 2.4GHz; 2GB RAM)* I just used the base server, the laptop option during install was not selected. I am trying to find a way to have the screen turn off after a certain amount of time. The screen will go black after a few minutes (the screen is blank but on) but I want the power to the screen to stop so I can leave the laptop open. Closing the laptop can cause it to get very hot. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Greetings,

I am a very new Debian user, just recently installed on my laptop and I'm having a lot of trouble getting my wifi to work. I have found the driver, but can not seem to get anything to recognize it and put it in the right place. I think I can get it to work by reloading Debian, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Note, I have no clue about geek stuff. Please do not assume I know what you are talking about if you use programing terms.

Thanks for the help!

I installed version 5.0.6 on an ancient Toshiba laptop (never mind why...), and the installation itself went smoothly enough. I booted from the install CD while connected to my network via a PC card ethernet adapter, TRENDnet model TE100-PC16R, and when the installation process got around to updating and downloading software from the repositories, everything went smoothly. However, after I rebooted from the fresh installation on the internal hard disk, I could not connect to the network. It appears that the appropriate drivers exist on the CD, but somehow didn't get installed onto the hard disk. I had no luck Googling around the web or poking at the package manager, so I thought I'd ask all y'all for help.

Hey all. I'm somewhat new to Linux, but I know most of the basics. I have an ASUS G50Vt that I installed Linux onto today. I installed ALSA, alsaconf, and I followed the steps on http://www.linlap.com/wiki/asus+g50v by adding some lines to the end of "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base," but I still get no sound at all. When I plug in my headphones, I hear a crackly sound, which means to me that something is there, just not everything. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hello world!
I have very strange problem with debian on my inspiron: it doesn't recognize all the screen, while the mouse pointer can move everywhere, windows, desktop and so on are somehow "locked" on the left side of the display, leaving the other part unusable gray and sad.
What is strange about it is that this happens only once in a while! How can it be??

Another thing I've noticed that is shurely screen-related (still maybe a brand new problem) is that when shutting down the screen becomes black as iit should but from the bottom a white light starts flashing.. any suggestion?

I am new in Debian, please help me! I don' want to go back to windows!!!!
