i forgot to plug in /dev/sdg so /dev/md1 started in degraded mode, and i tried to re-add the drive to the array after a new start, but the array doesnt re-sync with /dev/sdg but the drive is ok.

Note: /dev/sdm is my spare not /dev/sdg, i wonder why it doesnt resync with sdg

Hi all!

I think some information is missing here.
If /dev/sda is ~5GB, then /dev/sda1 contains all of them according to fdisk?
Also df shows that sda1 has ~2G. Where are the missing 3G?
Result of fdisk and df is below.

******************************************************************
bugzilla:/dev# fdisk -l

Hello,

I've just built a raid 5 setup using lenny as the OS.

Went through the process of buliding RAID 5 using mdadm
and formated the RAID using NTFS filesystem.

I can activate the raid manualy using mdadm and have access
to the RAID.

When I reboot, there is mention of a failure when the
fstab runs and tries to access the RAID to establish the
drive mapping. Further examination give me the idea that
the RAID is not active by the time mapping occurs.

Please Advise.

Thanks in Advance,

Mike from MD

Hi,

on a 500GB disk I used Gparted Live (USB) to extend the partition to cover all the disk (previously it was 127 thanks to pre-SP1 XP reinstall). The size change worked but it's played hell with the partition table. Specifically windows starts to boot then BSOD's while loading the system drivers.

Running a command window and doing an fdisk gives me this:

>> fdisk -l -u /dev/sdc1

Disk /dev/sdc1: 500.1 GB , 500107805184 bytes
...
...disk tech data, size etc...
...
This doesn't look like a partition table
Probably you selected the wrong device.

Device Boot Start End Block ID System
/dev/sdc1p1 ? 13578 119522 850995205 72 Unknown
Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.

I've converted an old Xbox in to a Samba/NAS for my media centre (win 7) and laptop (OS X). I've installed SWAT as well to manage it.

I'm trying to get it setup so that there's a user which has access to my ~/ and a guest user which just has read access to ~/Media so that the Media centre can read all the files from it without having to login.

I think I've created the users ok and when the security type is set to USER I can login using my user name and password and access the Home Share which points to ~/ but I can't access the ~/Media share.
