What is the Best Program To...

I am not sure where to start. So hear it is. I have had it with Microsoft Windows. I currently am in charge of my family’s small business . I would like to start the conversion process on 3 work stations running Windows XP, XP Pro and VISTA 64. First I need to learn on a starter system before the conversion. I have a 2000 Gateway 950 with MSI Athlon Motherboard - 950 MHz [Part #2511805]. Can anyone help with what might be compatible? If I need to build a test system I will.

Thank you,

Corey

I have some DVDs I want to modify. I understand that I'll have to rip them, edit them, and then reburn them.

What galls me is that I buy a DVD and am forced to watch advertisements and not allowed to just jump to the main menu or fast forward through the ads. It's just insulting.

What I seek to do is to yank out the ads and change things so I can jump to the main menu.

What is a simple user level GUI program for Debian stable to allow me to make such changes and then to burn the DVD?

Okay...I know Linux/Unix is user specific in security and operation...what if I wanted to set up a Debian box where one user was reckless as hell, and one was doing personal finance and dealing with things of a confidential nature?

Is there a way to segregate specific users on a Debian box so that one could use outside applications and updates to them, and another user could be rock solid secure, using ONLY bug tested security sane apps?

I am the administrator for a web page (Politics of Health). Our forum has not worked out well, and we want to set it up like alter-net or any of those sites that publish articles and allow readers to respond. I was not selected to be the administrator of this page because of my technical skill. I can handle HTML and CSS but am definitely not a programmer. Need something more or less user friendly that I can plug into the page at the right places. Maybe a program that comes with some instructions about setting it up.

One of the hardest things about Debian is to find a program to do a task. I KNOW Debian has the program -- finding it is the tricky part.

What I'm looking for is a sound server. I don't know whether this would be called a "streaming sound server" or not. Let me describe this and hopefully you can clue me in to the name of the program I'm looking for.

Right now we use XMMS to access MP3 and OGG files on my file server via NFS. But NFS eats up some pretty serious bandwidth and CPU, and it also means that we have several different songs being played at the same time because multiple XMMS clients are accessing the music files.
