I'm trying to setup my keyboard layout on Gnome. As default, it brings the Brazil layout (I did install the system with brazilian language - I'm brazilian), but my keyboard has the us-international layout. When I set the USA layout everything goes fine, then I remove the BRA one and restart the system. After the login process, gnome brings the Brazil layout again using it as the default option. USA is still there, as I had inserted before, but it is no more the first option and I don't want to use the Brazil layout, so it's not interesting seeing it be respawned at each system restart.

How can I restore full gnome login? I can login for a gnome-failsafe session.

/var/log/gdm/:0.log shows:
FATAL: Module fbcon not found
SELinux disabled on system, no enabling in X

$HOME/.xsession-errors shows
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
load s .profile
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Executing gnome-session failed, will try to run x-terminal-emulator

I may have deleted files accidentally (sudo-ed too fast). But I've already upgraded lenny to squeeze and then re-installed many gnome packages. The problem remains.

Thanks for your help.

Just upgraded to 6.0. I'm finding it difficult for Gnome to grasp additional locales particularly Japanese. I've added the "Japanese Desktop", "Japanese Gnome Desktop" and "Japanese Environment" localizations from aptitude. In the past I've also had to run the command:

localedef -i ja_JP -f EUC-JP ja_JP

to install the locale. Well, it no longer works that way I guess.

I'm sure you're wondering why I don't just install it in Japanese. I'm not Japanese and can't read the install instructions that way, but the system is used by Japanese who like to use Gnome in their own language.

Any ideas how to install this locale?

Hi,

This weekend I took the time to reinstall Debian on my laptop. I am running Squeeze, GNOME and some other stuff. One of the stuff is non-Debian and non-free software - XmlMind Xml Editor, great for DocBook editing - installed in /usr/local/xxe. The startup binary is in /usr/local/xxe/bin.

I have added /usr/local/xxe/bin to the ENV_PATH line in /etc/login.defs. Thus, i can login to the console, startx into GNOME, press Alt-F2, enter xxe and - hey presto - the Xml Editor is launched.
