"Cease and desist orders" for distributing Debian a prank

"Cease and desist orders" for distributing Debian is a prank

Currently the case of an alleged "cease and desist order" received by a German Debian user is causing quite a stir. In a faked lawyer's letter the user was accused of violating the rights of a Dutch company by distributing the Debian operating system via bittorrent.

It has now turned out that the "cease and desist order" was a bad prank, and that the accusation as well as the Dutch company were made up. Parallel investigations by the Debian Project had also resulted in the conclusion that the Debian Project doesn't and never did distribute any works of the (imaginary) Dutch company.

Debian Project mourns the loss of Adrian von Bidder

The Debian Project has lost an active member of its community. Adrian von Bidder (cmot) died on April 17th.

Adrian was one of the founding members and current secretary of debian.ch, he sparked many ideas that made Debian Switzerland be what it is today. Adrian also actively maintained software in the Debian package archive, and represented the project at numerous events. Even to those, who haven't worked with him directly, he was well known for his sometimes thoughtful, sometimes funny blog posts.

DebConf11 call for contributions

DebConf11 call for contributions

We invite submissions of proposals for papers, presentations, discussion sessions and tutorials for Debconf11. Submissions don't have to be limited to traditional talks, you could propose a performance, art installation, debate, or anything else. Official submissions will be accepted until May 8th 2011, 23.59 UTC.

This year submission of a formal written paper for the conference proceedings is again optional, though encouraged. Providing a written paper in advance means that interested people can attend your session ready with ideas for discussion, and especially helps those who find it hard to follow rapid English speech.
